char One of Bulba's strongest bonds is perhaps, from an outsider's perspective, one of the most unlikely. It's not even so much a notion of opposites attract- without the necessity a team scenario presented, it's possible that they would probably be nothing more than a thorn in each other's side should interaction have occurred. Yet though it started as a necessity, it slowly shaped and grew into something incredibly precious and dear to Bulba's heart. It's undeniable that it's a heart with prominent dragon-shaped scars across it. Nasty words were said that left long lasting impressions than any burn. Misunderstandings from both sides kept them alive for longer than they should have been allowed. Bulba spent a very long time never being sure how he should be around Char, and it was always a source of anxiety. He didn't want to drive him away, but he didn't know how to let him in either even when he tried. He desperately wanted to, since as much as Char burned him, the dragon's awkward fumbles and attempts to help Bulba along burned that much brighter. He was the first one he had called his brother, after all. It's taken a long time, but it's reached the point where only greater feelings of adoration have blossomed gently between the cracks of his scars. Bulba's realized that all of his old worries simply have no place in his heart anymore. All he wanted was for Char to be Char, and he's realized that all he needs to be for Char is Bulba. It's a sweet relief. He's not afraid Char will leave anymore. He's not afraid he'll hate him. Something as simple as a hug led to much more. Roots were laid down for a garden, and they reached much deeper than just the surface. Affections bloom just as easily as flowers now, unafraid to reach out for the sunny warmth. It's not perfect of course, and there still things that they could both do to make it better, but it's a wonderful place to be. As lovely as things have become, there's still a tiny, ignored corner of Bulba's heart that has an unsettled feeling of jealousy towards the dragon. Evolution will help to calm it, but it remains that Bulba had been harbouring envy over the relationship he and Green share. Ask anyone not in the know, and it's likely they would guess that Char was the trainer's starter. Hardships have built their own relationship, so Bulba knows first hand just how powerful of a bond can result. He's watched it bloom beautifully between Char and Green, and believes whole heartedly that they've achieved something that's just not his place with either of them. Char is perhaps the starter that Green was meant to have. Silly of him, perhaps, but something that is hard for him to shake after watching Green jump through so many hoops for the dragon. He's far more jealous that Char has had the chance to share a soul-flame with their trainer than he'll ever let on. Green had always been far more fiery hearted, and Bulba knows it. All he can really try to do is be happy they found each other. Despite what might seem like a large roadblock, Bulba loves Char very much and is incredibly content knowing that Char loves him back. There is nothing quite as nice as that. Bulba might not fit in the spot quite as easily anymore, but his brother's scaly hide remains one of his favorite places to scoot up against to feel safe and content. Char will always be his big brother, and Bulba's grateful for all his light and how far they've come. |

vinnie If anyone had told a little Bulbasaur just how important Vinnie would come to mean to him one day, he would have laughed a bit nervously and went on his way. It had started as a curiosity. Having never had a forest or a Garden of his own, Bulba had never had a real chance to bond with any other saur, let alone ever meet an Ivysaur or a Venusaur. Even when they were firmly established as just rivals, Bulba had been a bit excited to interact with the other saur… but was only met with a wall of hostility. Bulba never understood why Vinnie was such a jerk to him, but it was easier just to leave it that way. They were rivals after all. All he had to do was grow just as strong as he was so he could stop being always a step behind. When Red Team showed up at the Academy's door, he still couldn't shake that feeling. They had both evolved, and while Vinnie had reached a point where he could start to put old rivalries aside, Bulba was very much still grappling with his own insecurities and worth. He was introduced to the saur life he could have known, and at the time of his life where he couldn't stop saying he was "less than" as he figured out who he was, he took it to mean he was missing something. He wasn't the grass type he could be. He wasn't the grass type he should be, and he was too firmly stuck behind the walls their teams had formed to really let Vinnie in. … Except Vinnie came in anyway. So much had happened between them, it was hard for him not to. Bit by bit they had worked their way upwards and before Bulba knew it, they were friends. Bit by bit they kept going and before Bulba knew it, the Venusaur had become one of the irreplaceable persons in his life. He hadn't known how much he could miss him until he left, or how happy he would be to see him until he came back. He didn't realize just how lonely he would be if Vinnie wrote him off until he was confronted with the very real potential of it happening. Somehow, bit by bit, Vinnie had become someone that Bulba was willing to defy Green for. And honestly, that was a little scary. It was easy to forget to be scared around him, though. They eased each other's nightmares and soothed each other's broken hearts. Whether he knows it or not, the Venusaur has definitely helped Bulba find the strength to do things for himself, and to understand that he is actually quite okay. Bulba has come to need him a bit, and he still selfishly hopes that maybe Vinnie needs him too. Bulba's still not entirely certain exactly how long ago the seed of deeper affections for the older saur planted itself in his heart, but he knows for a fact that it is certainly blooming strongly now, nurtured by all of Vinnie's kind words and their stolen moments of tranquility between them. More than anything, he wants the other Venusaur to be happy. He wants him to smile again. He cares about him very deeply even just as a friend, and watching him toil through the years has made Bulba's heart ache horribly knowing there was not much he could do. Bulba knows that at this point, much of Vinnie's happiness depends on Vinnie himself. He knows that what Vinnie wants is probably well within his grasp, so all can do is stay by his side and root for him as his friend and try to make sure that maybe the Venusaur doesn't launch himself into most certain harm too much. As much as Bulba wants it to be something more, he's more than willing to wait as long as Vinnie needs to figure things out. Bulba is simply grateful that he knew he had been right to think that no matter what the outcome of telling him, they'd still be close. … But if Vinnie allowed him to, Bulba would certainly try his best to be the sun that shone warm and bright for him. |
